Texas Water Quality Inventory, 2000. Volume 1: Surface Water, Groundwater, and Finished Drinking Water Assessments and Water Quality Management Programs

The State of Texas Water Quality Inventory is prepared and submitted to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC) in accordance with scribes the status of the state’s waters based on historical data for surface water, finished drinking water, and groundwater quality. An overview is provided of: The status of surface and groundwater quality; the extent to which surface water quality, public drinking water, and groundwater standards are attained; availability of water for use; concerns regarding public health and aquatic life; status of the state’s wetlands; water bodies in which elevated constituents in water, sediment, and fish tissue present concerns; the causes and stressors which contribute to impairment of designated beneficial uses; the relative impacts of pollutants from various sources; water bodies for which additional actions are needed. Detailed information is provided for the TNRCC’s programs related to public drinking water, water rights and instream uses, surface and groundwater, and water pollution control. Information on the benefits and costs of surface water quality programs is also provided. EPA’s Water Body System (WBS) has been updated with the 2000 305(b) assessment data.
