The author describes a situation where the number of fires on North Dakota farms was on a significant increase in the first half of 1946. Whereas, loss to fire on city property had actually decreased during the same time frame. Most of these fires were caused by fires were caused by faulty heating systems, including defects in furnace, piping and chimney. Smoking and matches were second cause for fires.
