The aim of the present doctoral thesis is to study the association between socioeconomic adversity and perseverance and explore the role of locus of control as a mediator of this relationship. The thesis is organised as follows: Chapter 1 places the motivation of the thesis by underlying the relevant contribution in the literature on the relationship between socioeconomic adversity and behavioural constraints and presents the justification for locus of control as the chosen behavioural pathway in this thesis. I then set out the main objective of the thesis, followed by a brief outline of it.
