One of the crucial aspects for the safe and reliable operation of nuclear power plants is the monitoring of the instantaneous state of the reactors, so that possible anomalies can be detected early on and proper actions can be promptly taken. In the future, this will represent an increasingly important challenge. On the one hand, over 60% of the current fleet of nuclear reactors is composed of units more than 30 years old, therefore operational problems are expected to be more frequent.
