Des chrétiens précurseurs d'un dialogue interreligieux entre l'Europe et l'Inde ?

International audienceChristianity in India is an allogene religion (an ancient settlement with the Christians of St. Thomas) revisited by Europeans (Franciscans and Dominicans in the Middle Ages, but especially Jesuits from the sixteenth century and new women's congregations in the nineteenth century). In the twentieth century, two figures particularly marked the interreligious dialogue between Europe and India: Jules Monchanin (1895-1957) and Henri Le Saux (1910-1973). The two men meet in India from 1948. They found the ashram of Saccidananda in Kulitalai in the wood of Shantivanam. Monchanin's writings are collected in a work entitled Missionary Theology and Spirituality (1985). After the death of Monchanin, swami Parama Arubi Anandam (1957), Henri Le Saux pursues interreligious dialogue with Brahmans and participates in meetings in Almora, Rajpur, Uttarkashi. He published Hindu Wisdom, Christian Mysticism (1965). He works at a liturgy in Sanskrit and devotes his last writings to the Upanishads.
