International audienceThis paper deals with the intensive value of epithetical adjectives in preposed position in french (de gros avantages, de larges bénéfices, de maigres revenus, une faible amélioration, une nette progression, un léger retard, ...). We propose a pragmatic analysis of these adjectives based on the hypothesis that an adjective can constitue a focus within a nominal phrase (NP) (Nølke 2001). We analyse particularily the adjective faible which is "modificateur déréalisant" (Ducrot 1995) within the NP une faible amélioration.
