The development of photovoltaic conversion systems these past thirty years led to considerable improvements in terms of cost and performances. The best conversion efficiencies are currently obtained with solar concentration systems associated with multi-junction solar cells (MJSC) made of III-V materials. In this field, the record efficiency is of 46.0% under a 508-sun solar concentration with a 4-junction cell from Soitec/Fraunhofer ISE/CEA. This MJSC is composed of a tandem cell lattice-matched to GaAs wafer bonded to another tandem cell lattice-matched to InP.
