TEACHER AND STUDENT PERCEPTION TOWARD THE EFFECTIVE TEACHER AND STUDENT TALK IN CLASSROOM

The main objective of this research is to explore the teacher’s and students’ perception towards the characteristics of effective teacher and student talk in the classroom. This research is based on the interview conducted to a teacher and 12 students in an undergraduate program of State University of Makassar. The researcher found that referring to the teacher and students’ responses, the researcher identified the characteristics of effective teacher talk in classroom interaction specifically (1) motivating and encouraging; (2) simple and easy to understand; and (3) slow.
