Housing discrimination can take place in the framework of interindividual relationships—that is, between an owner and a potential buyer or a landlord and a potential tenant—, but also as a consequence of the policies elaborated and implemented by public authorities. This conference paper focuses on the role of the state in devising nondiscriminatory housing policies. In particular, it looks at the complicity of states in tolerating or favouring certain dynamics, such as housing commodification and financialisation, that hinder the possibility for socioeconomically disadvantaged groups to access adequate housing. It also considers the role and responsibility of private actors in this regard
