Despite significant past research and experience, early-age cracking in concrete structures, including that caused by restrained thermal deformation, remains an ongoing major concern to the concrete construction industry, seriously compromising the performance and aesthetics of concrete structures. Through a review of the mechanism of early-age cracking, this paper first clearly highlights the need to holistically examine all influencing factors on the basis of proper understanding of underlying phenomena and reliable data.
