A fiber optical probe for colorimetric measurement of chemical properties suitable for the insertion into living tissue. A chemical to be colorimetrically measured is introduced into a sample chamber on the side of the probe near the probe tip. A colorimetric substance contained in the sample chamber changes colors in response to chemical properties of the chemical to be colorimetrically measured, thereby changing the amount of light transmitted through the sample chamber by the optical fibers.U
