he ALPHATRAP experiment has been designed to measure the g -factor of the bound electron in highly charged ions. Measurements are performed inside a cryogenic Penning trap. The highly charged ions are extracted from the Heidelberg electron beam ion trap (EBIT). However, before the extracted ions are loaded into the trap, one has to select individual ion species out of the broad spectrum of charge states produced by the EBIT. In order to be independent of the Heidelberg-EBIT as an ion source while setting up the injection of the ion into the trap, the use of a second EBIT as an offline source is intended.
