The formation of phases during activation of MoVTeNb mixed oxides and transition metal doped MoVTeNb mixed oxides, active in the selective oxidation of propane to acrylic acid, was followed using in situ XRD. Usually, temperatures of 600oC and higher are applied in the preparation procedures. However, the development of phases started already below 500oC. The influence of pretreatment parameters and the addition of dopants on the crystallization process is discussed
