The use of online periodical databases in the secondary school setting: a case study

The purpose of this case study was to determine how one particular school uses online periodical databases and how the products they have compare to similar products available. The case study involved one high school in North Carolina that has a reputation for having an outstanding program. The study involved informal observations as well as a small use study. Two students participated in the use study. A discussion of the findings suggest methods to assist the media specialist in using the online periodical database to its fullest potential while providing students with the skills necessary to thrive in our modern technological world. In addition, the findings point to ways these resources can be incorporated throughout the entire school curriculum due to greater media center involvement
