This study examines the ways in which black females are under served in United StatesPublic Schools. This study focuses on the lack of representation of black females inchildren’s literature and school curriculum, as well as why that is problematic.The researcher conducted a content analysis of the required and recommended readinglisted in the EL Education third grade curriculum. This curriculum is used in all of WakeCounty Public School System and beyond. The researcher found that black females wereunder represented as protagonists and authors.
