In the 21st century, the pace of globalization and the growth of new information technologies, such as the Internet, are fueling both economic prosperity and human advancement. The potential for social and economic inequality due to lack of access is an issue of growing concern. The issue becomes even more pressing when we look at the implications for large, developing countries such as India. While many are living in a period of tremendous prosperity, innovation, and growth, the disparity between wealth and poverty has never been greater.
