Art history publications are heavily reliant on images to illustrate their arguments, but a restrictive rights culture combined with the shrinking budgets of publishers has meant that it can be difficult to find and use the necessary images. By contrast, online cultures use images to freely express themselves in an open generative contrast. This paper analyses how the fair use doctrine of copyright law as a tool that can help bridge these two cultures and create a more open discourse in art history.Master of Science in Library Scienc
