Cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women in Honduras. The Honduran Health Alliance (HHA), a student-led organization created in 2002 by medical and public health students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, aims to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with cervical cancer among women from six rural communities in Choluteca, the southernmost state of Honduras. There are many factors that determine why a woman may or may not receive screening services from the HHA. In order to assess whether the HHA is most effectively meeting the needs of the target population as it relates to its mission of cervical cancer reduction, the author conducted preliminary research in the communities in question. ...
