The purpose of this paper is to assess the state of maternal and child health of internally displaced persons (IDP) in Darfur, Sudan. It will examine the impact of conflict and its direct and indirect effects on maternal and child health outcomes. A review of the literature indicates that the levels of maternal mortality, neonatal mortality, under-5 mortality, and malnutrition resulting from conflict in Darfur are unacceptable by any public health standard. Humanitarian aid must be distributed far more effectively if rates of hunger and death are to be brought down to conventional levels.
