Mamatoto Village is a community-based organization in Washington, DC that specializes in training perinatal community health workers who provide perinatal and birth support to women in the community. The agency is focused on providing culturally relevant care to women of color in the DC metro area. The majority of the women who are served by the organization are referred through two Medicaid managed care organizations. Research highlights that women who have birth supporters, such as doulas, have improved birth outcomes in comparison to those who receive regular care.
