There is a frequent flooding problem at the Manning Parking Lot (MPL) of the University of North Carolina, which brings some safety problems and economic loss. This study first sought to identify likely causes of the flooding from a review of historical precipitation patterns, the topography of MPL and associated catchments, and the existing drainage system serving these areas. Understanding of the problem and proposed solutions were then based on direct observation, discussions with UNC facilities employees, and development and use of a SWMM hydraulic model.
