Male-specific (F+) coliphages were investigated as indicators of virus inactivation during thermophilic digestion and other thermal processes. Because pathogen monitoring in sludge is difficult, costly, and impractical, microbial indicators are needed to predict pathogen reductions in Class A biosolids.
