Evaluation of recent literature regarding the adverse effects and the benefits of effluent chlorination for disinfection indicates that for most cases, secondary effluents should continue to be disinfected. Chlorine continues to be the most inexpensive and reliable method of disinfection. The adverse effects to aquatic ecosystems and the formation of possibly hazardous reaction products are, at the present, apparently minor or feasibly mitigable.Master of Science in Environmental Engineerin
