Although associations between abuse and social and behavioral outcomes, abuse and attachment relationships, and attachment and social and behavioral outcomes are well documented in the literature, little research has examined all three of these variables together. The current study addresses gaps in past research by examining relationships between the experience of physical abuse, attachment to parents and peers, and social and behavioral outcomes in adolescents. Analyses were conducted using follow-up data from a large study examining outcomes of children with a history of abuse first studied in pre-adolescence and their case matched, non-abused classmates.
