Paclitaxel-Loaded In-Situ Forming Implants for Treatment of Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive tract, often progressing undetected into advanced stages, in which treatment becomes difficult. The standard of care therapy for ovarian cancer is a cytoreductive surgery followed by a demanding schedule that typically involves 3-6 cycles of taxane (paclitaxel or docetaxel) and platinum compound (carboplatin or cisplatin) administered intravenously every three weeks. Subcutaneous injection of the in-situ forming implant (ISFI) system loaded with paclitaxel (PX) serves as an attractive alternative to the current standard of care treatment due to ease of administration, long-acting and controlled release, and potential to enhance antitumor efficacy.Bachelor of Art
