This paper is a literature review that explores the empirical evidence to identify the most effective prevention strategies in decreasing abusive head trauma (AHT) in infants. PubMed, CINAHL, and Clinical Key yielded 11 quality research studies that serve as the basis for this review. After reviewing the literature, a model prevention program is proposed to reduce AHT in the state of North Carolina, based on the current evidence. This intervention is based on the Health Belief Model, and reflects multi-modal primary and secondary prevention education program delivered by nurses in perinatal areas, neonatal intensive care units, and pediatric nurses working in inpatient and outpatient areas.Bachelor of Scienc
