The Prevalence of Violence Against ED Nurses and Effective Interventions to Mitigate Violence

A literature review exploring the incidence of workplace violence (WPV) against nurses in the emergency department (ED) setting. Expounding professional literature findings regarding ways to mitigate such violence against nurses. WPV is a global problem affecting countless emergency department nurses. WPV not only affects emergency nurses but the overall healthcare business is impacted as well. As a result of the increase in violence against nurses, they are more inclined to take time off from work. Professional scholarly literature informs that the best intervention is to educate nurses and medical staff on the proper ways to mitigate WPV. To address the need for increasing education amongst nurses in an effort to mitigate WPV a short educational “white board” video was created for nurses to learn about the prevalence of WPV and how to prevent it. Additional resources are included in the educational video referring nurses to obtain additional information from the Emergency Nurse Association (ENA) about WPV and other ways to mitigate WPV from ever occurring.Bachelor of Scienc
