Short planning articles. Includes: HAZARD MITIGATION PLANNING: This Fall, North Carolina was spared the full force of Hurricane Diana. Diana's merciful outcome saved the state's coastal properties from catastrophic damage. While the extent of this hurricane's effect was less than originally expected, its landfall dramatized the need to plan for natural hazards and prepare coastal policies which will minimize their future impacts. Current research at the University of North Carolina's Center for Urban and Regional Studies is focusing on the mitigation of hurricane and coastal storm damages.
