International audienceAn archaeological evaluation was undertaken in Orchies in 2013 at the corner of Letellier and Gaston Leroy streets prior to the construction of a building. An area of 644 m² was investigated. The work revealed medieval occupation dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries with front street wooden walled buildings with beaten clay soil floors and having back plots. Several pits were detected and sampled ; however, the presence of groundwater prohibited full and thorough investigation.The demolition of the buildings in the late 14th or 15th century was followed by a re-cultivation.
