A hemispherical microbond specimen adhered onto single carbon fiber has been proposed for evaluating the interfacial shear strength between epoxy and carbon fiber. Hemispherical microbond specimens showed low interfacial shear strength data and its small standard deviation as compared with the droplet one, which seemed to be caused by the reduction of the meniscus effects and of the stress concentration in the region contacting with the tip of pin hole. In comparison with the droplet specimen the hemispherical specimen showed the shear stress distribution similar to the cylindrical one in that low stress concentration arose around the contacting region.
