Arts théâtraux, regarder et s'y prendre autrement

National audienceThe article proposes a synthesis of issues that emerged during an action-research process conducted with two groupings of professional organisations related to the performing arts, Autre(s)pARTs and U-Fisc, each of them being engaged in a collective reflection.It begins by going back over several aspects of the socio-economy of the theatre sector that are too little taken into account even though the 2003 crisis has put it in the limelight : a too crystallised organisation of this field, a stratified notoriety that is the source of strong inequalities, the unresolved tension between salaried work and the willingness to be independent, a too little regulated employment flexibility.It reminds the reader that the development of performing arts is to be understood in a context where three distinct conceptions of the public interest in the arts and the relationship between democracy and culture are at stake. By having a go at renewing the relationship between art, people and their territories, many companies or cultural venues get involved in the invention of a new paradigm for a cultural democracy that still remains far from being a reality.It presents elements of an argument for a more heteronomous approach to performing arts, one that would be economically more secure for the people working in that sector, including salaried employees with intermittent activity.It ends with a plea for a theatre sector organisation giving more space to the artistic practices carried out more closely to the people and their areas of life.L'article propose une synthèse de problématiques qui sont apparues au cours d'une recherche-action menée auprès de deux regroupements d'organisations professionnelles liés aux arts de la scène, Autre(s)pARTs et l'U-Fisc, engagés chacun dans un travail de réflexion collective.Il commence par revenir sur plusieurs aspects trop peu pris en compte de la socio-économie du secteur théâtral dont la crise de 2003 s'est pourtant faite l'écho : une organisation trop cristallisée de ce champ, une stratification de la notoriété source de fortes inégalités, la tension non résolue entre le travail salarié et une volonté d'indépendance, une flexibilité de l'emploi trop peu régulée.Il rappelle que le développement des arts théâtraux est à comprendre dans un contexte où trois conceptions distinctes de l'intérêt public pour les arts et du rapport entre démocratie et culture sont en jeu. En s'essayant à renouveler la relation entre l'art, les populations et les territoires, de nombreuses compagnies ou lieux culturels participent à l'invention d'un nouveau paradigme pour une démocratie culturelle qui reste néanmoins encore loin d'advenir.Il présente des éléments d'un argumentaire pour une approche plus hétéronome des arts théâtraux et qui sécuriserait économiquement plus les personnes qui y travaillent, notamment les salariés à activité rémunérée intermittente.Il se conclut par un plaidoyer pour une organisation du secteur théâtral donnant plus de place aux pratiques artistiques menées plus au près des populations et de leurs territoires de vie
