AbstractThe conventional continuous fermentation and continuous with high cell density for lactic acid production from cassava starch by Lactobacillus plantarum SW14 was investigated. In conventional continuous fermentation, lactic acid productivity increased while the acid concentration decreased with increasing dilution rate. The highest lactic acid productivity of 4.53 gl-1h-1 was observed at a dilution rate of 0.4 h-1, which was 4.7 time higher than batch fermentation. A further increase in lactic acid productivity was observed in a continuous with high cell density and reached 8.0 gl-1h-1, which were equal to 8 and 1.8 times compared to batch and conventional continuous mode, respectively. These results indicated thatL. plantarum SW14 ...
