Effective English Presentation and Communication in an International Conference

Abstract“It is difficult to go to any presentation without encountering the most elementary errors of conception and execution” . “... the patient tolerance of the audiences who sit through (presentations) in charitable silence with a politeness that approaches the heroic.” (Anthony Jay). Nowadays, International conferences have become frequent and no doubt English has become the major language of the exchange of information and communication in those events. Usually, presenters pay a lot of time and effort to the content of their papers and less on effective English structures, vocabulary and pronunciation.The goal behind the present paper is to help conference speakers for effective English communication and presentation in an international conference. First of all different phases of presentation in an English conference is introduced as follows: Introduction phase, information phase, persuasion phase, visual phase, conclusion phase, and questions phase. Then, the structure of the English speech and presentation, necessary elements, expressions, common vocabulary, pronunciation tips, intonation, accent, voice tone, pitch, the mechanics of speech, phrasing, posing and pacing used in English presentations in international conferences are introduced and discussed
