AbstractIn the current version of the German Manual for the Design of Road Infrastructure traffic light controlled crossroads cannot be evaluated as a whole but only in the intersection approaches. Neither is the user's view taken into account. This gap has now been closed in the framework of a dissertation at RWTH Aachen University. The paper describes the development of a procedure for an overall evaluation of traffic light controlled intersections, taking into consideration the effects of mean delays on the quality evaluation from the point of view of the road user. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd
