ABSTRACTProtein kinase C (PKC) isoforms are being elucidated as an increasingly diverse family of enzymes involved in the downstream signal transduction and cell function in various types of cells. To date, 11 PKC isoforms have been identified; they are grouped according to their molecular structure and mode of activation: conventional PKCs (α, βI, βII, and γ), novel PKCs (δ, ε, μ, θ, and η), and atypical PKCs (ζ, and ι/λ). Eosinophils are involved in the pathogenesis of allergic diseases such as bronchial asthma, pollinosis, and atopic dermatitis as well as in the inflammatory response to parasitic infections.
