AbstractCells usually become ‘committed’ to differentiate long before any actual morphological change is apparent. In one model commitment is a decision which corresponds to the expression of a control gene, while differentiation is the ultimate consequence of that decision. We have been studying adipocyte commitment and differentiation at the molecular level. Earlier we showed that the introduction of a specific DNA sequence into ‘uncommitted’ cells renders those cells committed to differentiate into adipocytes. Here we report temporal regulation of the expression of this DNA sequence; furthermore, we show that this RNA is in the non-polyA+ fraction of total cellular RNA.
