Corynebacterium acnes was found to be a resident member of the skin flora at 18 different sites. Great individual variation in numbers of recovered organisms occurred; chance factors in the recovery technique probably accounted for this variation. The minority of patients studied had very low numbers of C. acnes at all sites studied
