AbstractThe paper includes a study of first year students’ beliefs regarding education and school teaching and learning and aims at identifying a set of benchmarks for the increase of academic programme's relevance in relation with students’ conceptions on important subjects they will promote as professionals. The literature on quality of teaching draws the attention on the importance of teachers’ beliefs, that are constructions representing a personal interpretation of own professional and personal experiences related to school and education. Based on the data, the study offers a set of curriculum development solutions, oriented towards a more efficient academic teacher training programme
