Aldosterone plays a major role in the regulation of extracellular volume and blood pressure, through its renal action via the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR). The extra-renal roles of aldosterone/MR in non-epithelial cells (neurones, cardiomyocytes, vessels, adipocytes…) are now intensively investigated.
