AbstractCircumstances in which the countable chain condition implies separability are investigated. In particular, the implication “Martin's Axiom plus 2N0>N1 implies Souslin's conjecture” is greatly generalized. Proofs are purely topological, using the strong Baire category form of Martin's Axiom. Extensive use is made of Šanin calibers and other cardinal invariants
