AbstractSpectroscopic properties in Tb3+-doped SiO2-B2O3-Na2O-BaO (SBBN) glass have been investigated. It is noted that the Tb3+ single-doped SBBN glass exhibits intense green (545nm) emission, obvious blue (493nm) and yellow (588nm) emission under the excitation of 365nm, whose corresponding luminescent mechanism is also discussed. The concentration dependence of the emission intensity shows that the optimum Tb4O7 doping content is 1.0%mol. Effects of B2O3 substitution by SiO2 on spectroscopic properties have also been investigated in detail. The result shows that the substitution of SiO2 for B2O3 can effectively improve the luminescence properties of Tb3+, which makes SBBN glass more attractive for using in optical device
