After the ratification by the USA of the 1997 Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage, which is not yet in force, this Convention comes into international focus: It is the only international nuclear liability convention which the US may adhere to. Contracting Parties to the Convention will establish treaty relations with the leading nuclear state, thus promoting cooperation and facilitating the bringing of claims for nuclear damage, particularly in transport cases. The Convention provides additional advantages through its innovative approaches. On the other hand, there are also conceptual shortcomings and other drawbacks which could create doubts as to whether Germany should become a Party.</p
