ABSTRACTThe Superior Vena Cava Syndrome (SVCS) is usually associated with advanced malignancy and has a dismal prognosis.This syndrome can be an acute or subacute event, that may require prompt intervention.Radiotherapy is a potent modality in the palliative treatment of SVCS with a significant reduction in symptoms in the majority of cases.The authors analyse 20 cases of SVCS treated between January 1984 and October 1997, in the Department of Radiotherapy of the Instituto Português de Oncologia de Francisco Gentil-Cenlro do Porto.REV PORT PNEUMOL 1998; IV (3): 281-28
