2018-11-08Many mainland Chinese students studying in the United States have experienced stress, loneliness and even isolation due to the overwhelming academic requirements, prolonged absence from home as well as the lack of social support. Although they have scored high on Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and/or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) exams and received offers from prestigious institutions, the transitional period has resulted in them feeling disengaged in class, less confident in communication and local cultural immersion.
