AbstractIf 1 < p < ∞, 1 ⩽ q < ∞ and p ≠ q, then it is proved that every bounded linear operator from lp into lq has the property that its range does not contain any infinite dimensional closed subspace. It is also proved that every bounded linear operator from Lp into lq where 1 < p ⩽ 2, 1 ⩽ q < ∞, q ≠ 2 and p ≠ q, or from lp into Lq where 1 < p < ∞, 2 ⩽ q < ∞, p ≠ 2 and p ≠ q has the same property
