AbstractThis study aims to show how social studies teachers convey values to students, how competent they regard themselves in this subject and what kinds of problems they confront when teaching values education. A phenomenological design, which is a qualitative research design, was used. Nineteen social studies teachers were interviewed. The results show that social studies teachers do not consider themselves to be sufficiently competent in values education and they face certain problems related to the curriculum, social environment and family while transmitting values to students
