AbstractMink enteritis virus (MEV) and Aleutian mink disease parvovirus (ADV) are two mink parvoviruses that replicate permissively in Crandell feline kidney (CRFK) cells. We have used this cell model to examine if these two mink parvoviruses use the same cellular receptor. Whereas the cellular receptor for MEV is expected to be the transferrin receptor (TfR), the cellular receptor for ADV has not been clearly identified. We used short hairpin RNAs (shRNAs) produced from plasmids to trigger RNA interference (RNAi), specifically and effectively reducing TfR expression in CRFK cells.
