AbstractThe paper deals with the foundations of the theory of discrete time systems, and the relationship with the standard descriptions of systems in terms of input, state and output variables and of recursive equations for the state variable and instantaneous equations for the output variable. A function space approach is adopted, and the relationship is completely unveiled leaning essentially on the formalization of such concepts as dynamical system (or system with memory) and casual system
