On the 50th anniversary of the founding of The Journal of Investigative Dermatology and the Society for Investigative Dermatology, we want to understand how and why the Society and the Journal were founded. From the distance of 50 years, the remembrances of the few who were present are a valuable resource, but often the perspectives of years change the balance of fact and fancy. We are truly fortunate that Dr. Arthur Curtis wrote the following article to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Journal and the Society.
