AbstractThe heterogeneous nature of bone material is responsible for locational variation in its mechanical properties whereas its anisotropic nature makes these properties to be directional. Cortical bone is considered to be weak in shear but weakest when a transverse tensile load is applied. In the present investigation transverse elastic modulus and shear modulus are evaluated at different locations of buffalo femoral bone diaphysis using uniaxial tensile and Iosipescu shear test method. The locational values of these mechanical properties obtained in the present study are also compared with the corresponding values for tibiae cortical bone.
